New version of Volkswagen Tiguan R may appear
Despite the active development of electric vehicles, Volkswagen is not abandoning traditional powerful cars. The company is preparing electric versions of the GTI and plans to transition the R lineup to fully electric propulsion by 2030, but for now, it may introduce a new version of the Tiguan R. This will be a fast crossover that combines practicality with driving excitement.
Pedro Martinez Diaz, head of sales and marketing for Volkswagen R, hinted at the possibility of such a car. He noted:
“I will never say never. The Tiguan R was very successful in Europe and Australia… we’ll see.”
Possible technical specifications
The previous version of the Tiguan R had a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 316 horsepower, but it was not available in North America. The new model may get an engine from the Golf R or a more powerful hybrid system. It is also expected that the car will be built on the MQB Evo platform, which is used in the Golf R.
Why this matters
Currently, there are not many fast crossovers in the mass-market segment. If Volkswagen releases the Tiguan R, the main competitor could be the Mazda CX-60 with its 320-horsepower hybrid system. While the company is preparing for an electric future, such models may become the last powerful internal combustion engine cars in the brand’s lineup.
