Toyota GR Yaris Receives Stylish Aerodynamic Elements

Update for Toyota GR Yaris

In Japan, it is now possible to order the Toyota GR Yaris with the Aero Performance Package. This package includes a splitter, vented hood, additional air intakes, a lower deflector, and a rear spoiler. It is available for the lightweight RC version and the flagship RZ “High Performance” version.

Package Details and Its Development

In April, Toyota introduced the updated version of the GR Yaris in Japan, announcing the Aero Performance Package, which will go on sale from October 1st. The package consists of six elements designed to improve cooling and aerodynamics. These updates were developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing and their professional drivers during participation in the Super Taikyu Series and the All Japan Rally Championship.

Design Features

The vented hood replicates the shape of the carbon fiber hood from the GRMN Yaris model but is made of aluminum. It is combined with a splitter that reduces front lift and air intakes on the front fenders that improve handling and steering feel during sharp maneuvers. The package also includes a flat fuel tank protector to optimize airflow under the car and additional rear air intakes to reduce aerodynamic load on the bumper. The most noticeable addition is the large adjustable rear spoiler, which improves stability at high speeds and during braking.

Technical Specifications and Prices

The GR Yaris is equipped with a turbocharged three-cylinder 1.6-liter engine that produces 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) and 400 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual transmission and an eight-speed automatic, which send power to all four wheels via the GR-Four all-wheel-drive system inherited from rallying. Additionally, the RZ “High Performance” version features Torsen limited-slip differentials and forged BBS aluminum wheels.

Sales of the GR Yaris with the Aero Performance Package will start on October 1st. The new version of the hatchback costs from ¥4,055,000 ($27,500) for the RC version with a manual transmission and up to ¥5,825,000 ($39,500) for the RZ “High Performance” with an eight-speed automatic. In other words, the Aero Performance Package adds ¥495,000 ($3,400) to the cost of the GR Yaris compared to equivalent versions without it.

International Availability

Besides Japan, the Aero Performance Package is expected to become available in other markets, such as Europe, where it was introduced earlier this year.

This package not only enhances the car’s aesthetic appeal but also offers real benefits for those who value dynamic driving. Given the success of the GR Yaris in sports competitions, such updates may resonate with car enthusiasts looking for improved performance without the need for modifications themselves. Market availability in Europe could also contribute to the model’s growing popularity among enthusiasts.
