Toyota Offers New Electric Vehicle at a Lower Price Than a 15-Year-Old Used Corolla

Toyota Significantly Reduces Prices of Its Electric Vehicles in China

GAC Toyota and FAW Toyota have announced significant price reductions for their electric models—the bZ3X crossover and the bZ3 sedan. These cars have become so affordable that in some cases their cost is lower than the price of a 15-year-old used Corolla on the American market, which is about $14,000.

Particular interest is drawn by the electric crossover bZ3X, which has been produced by the GAC Toyota joint venture since the beginning of 2025. Its base price, which was previously 109,800 yuan (approximately $15,800), has been reduced to 99,800 yuan (about $14,400) to celebrate reaching the milestone of 80,000 cars sold in the first year.

Technical Specifications and Market Success

Even in the base configuration, the bZ3X offers a significant set of features. The car is equipped with a 50 kWh battery, providing a range of up to 430 kilometers according to the local CLTC cycle, and a single electric motor with 221 horsepower. Variants with 58 and 68 kWh batteries are also available, increasing the maximum distance to 610 kilometers.

This model has demonstrated outstanding sales results, leading the ranking of electric vehicles from joint ventures in China for five consecutive months, starting from September. Its affordable price has become one of the main reasons for such demand.

The bZ3 Sedan Has Become Even More Affordable

The price reduction campaign also affected the electric sedan bZ3 from FAW Toyota. This model, which was updated just a few months ago, now costs from 93,800 yuan (approximately $13,500), compared to the previous price of 109,800 yuan.

The sedan uses Blade battery packs from BYD with capacities of 49.9 or 65.3 kWh. The declared range depending on configuration is from 517 to 616 kilometers.

For this amount, the buyer receives not only an electric drive but also modern equipment: a 15.6-inch media screen, a digital instrument panel, a panoramic sunroof, wireless smartphone chargers, a roof-mounted lidar, and Level 2 semi-autonomous driving functions.

Such pricing initiatives indicate intense competition in the Chinese electric vehicle market, where local manufacturers traditionally set the tone. A sharp price reduction from a player like Toyota may indicate the brand’s desire not only to maintain but also to significantly strengthen its position in a key segment. The success of the bZ3X and bZ3 models demonstrates that a strategy of affordability combined with good technical equipment resonates with local consumers. This situation also highlights the global disparity in car pricing, prompting reflection on production economics and logistics in different regions of the world.
