Toyota unveils the super-powered GR Yaris Morizo RR
At the Tokyo Auto Salon, Toyota presented an even more sporty and extreme version of its GR Yaris hatchback. The new model, named the GR Yaris Morizo RR, is currently a prototype but is already being prepared for limited production.
The car retains the well-known 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder power unit. It is expected to produce the same 300 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque as the Japanese version of the standard model. Therefore, the main differences lie in other aspects.
Lightweight construction and aerodynamics: key upgrades
Engineers focused on reducing weight and improving aerodynamics. The main updates include:
Due to the additional downforce created by the new wing, Toyota optimized the suspension to make the car even more agile on uneven road surfaces, including the Nürburgring track.
Precise tuning for maximum feel
The all-wheel-drive system has also been modified. The “Gravel” mode with a 53:47 power distribution has been replaced by the “Morizo” mode with a 50:50 split between the front and rear axles. This distribution is identical to that offered by the original GR Yaris in its now-discontinued “Track” mode. Additionally, the electric power steering has been recalibrated for more direct feedback.
Motorsport-inspired interior
The most interesting changes occurred inside the cabin. The steering wheel has been completely redesigned with motorsport requirements in mind. It is upholstered in Alcantara with yellow accents and equipped with special switches for controlling the audio system and cruise control. The instrument panel also received its own unique design.
Extremely limited series
The biggest disappointment for fans will be the car’s extremely limited availability. The total global production run of the GR Yaris Morizo RR will be only 200 units. Of these, 100 units are intended for the Japanese market, and another 100 for selected European countries. The Japanese models will be available through a special lottery in the Gazoo mobile app.
The appearance of the Morizo RR once again underscores Toyota Gazoo Racing’s commitment to creating highly specialized, race-bred versions of road cars. Such steps not only raise the bar for competitors in the compact sports car segment but also serve as a testing ground for new technologies that may later find their way into mass-market models. The limited production run makes this model not only a driving tool but also a potential collector’s item.
