Trump’s Trade Restrictions Increased the Cost of Ford Cars by $2000 for Buyers

After the start of the trade war initiated by President Trump, it was a matter of time before consumers would feel its consequences. This has become a reality – Ford has increased prices on cars manufactured in Mexico: the Maverick, Bronco Sport, and Mustang Mach-E. As reported in a dealer bulletin published by the outlet, the cost of some models will increase by $2000.

The price increase notice for the Maverick states that prices will rise by $645–$1150 depending on the trim. The delivery cost will also increase by $100, and some additional options will also become more expensive.

As a result of the latest price increase, the Maverick costs $8150 more than it did a few years ago. Even compared to August 2024, the difference is striking – back then the base version cost $26,195 excluding the $1595 delivery fee. Now the price is $28,145 including the $1695 delivery fee, meaning an increase of $1950 in less than a year.

Other imported models from Mexico have also become more expensive: the Mustang Mach-E now starts at $37,995 plus $1995 for delivery, and the Bronco Sport starts at $30,995 including $1595 for transportation.

The price increase applies to cars manufactured after May 2nd. A Ford representative explained that the changes are related to regular mid-year price adjustments, as well as “the customs duties we face.” While no one likes price increases, the company noted that “we have not passed the full cost of the tariffs on to customers.”

This raises questions about the future – perhaps automakers will gradually increase prices to avoid shocking buyers. If so, the cost may rise by a few hundred dollars at a time, rather than in a sharp jump.
