Toyota adapted Land Cruiser 70, designed for off-road, for urban conditions

Toyota Land Cruiser Base Presented Two New Concepts for Tokyo Exhibition

Toyota Land Cruiser Base division is preparing two unique concept cars for the Field Style Tokyo 2026 exhibition, which showcase a restrained approach to design. One is based on the 250 series, the other on the legendary 70 series. Both are named “Urban Style” and are intended for owners who want to modify their SUVs themselves. These cars will not go into serial production.

Land Cruiser 70: A Tribute to the Past

Let’s start with the classic 70 series. It is painted in beige, and the alloy wheels have the same shade. The car is fitted with off-road tires. Black and gray stripes along the sides are a style borrowed from the 1980s. The name “Urban Heritage Style” explains everything. According to Toyota, the goal of this project is to show that even such a “workhorse” vehicle can look appropriate in the city without losing its off-road qualities.

Land Cruiser 250: Modern and Restrained

The 250 series took a different path. Its body is matte gray, while the roof, pillars, plastic trim, mirrors, rear bumper, and tailgate are glossy black. The 20-inch wheels are taken from higher trims but repainted in dark metallic. The result is more somber than the 70 model and much less reminiscent of outdoor adventures.

Technical Details and Interior

The company did not disclose the technical characteristics of the concepts, so it is unknown if they have any updates “under the hood.” There are also no images of the interior, although it is likely equipped with additional accessories.

What is Land Cruiser Base?

It is worth telling separately about this division. Land Cruiser Base creates exhibition cars, collaborates with lifestyle brands on accessories, and produces discontinued parts for old Land Cruisers as part of the GR Heritage Parts project. It also manages an owners’ community and a YouTube channel where it tells their stories.

Field Style Tokyo 2026 Exhibition

The Field Style Tokyo 2026 exhibition will take place on May 9-10 in Japan. In addition to the “Urban Style” duo, the Land Cruiser Base booth will also feature merchandise from the lifestyle brand Dulton. Additionally, at the event, you will be able to purchase an aluminum mechanical key case that was previously sold out.

These two concepts are an excellent example of how automakers can experiment with design without releasing serial models. They show that even a utilitarian SUV can become a stylish urban accessory, and a modern SUV can get a more aggressive and “mature” look. This approach allows Toyota to maintain interest in the Land Cruiser lineup, demonstrating customization potential and attracting a new audience that values not only off-road qualities but also visual individuality.
