2027 Toyota Corolla Hatchback Update: Digital Panels and Stylish Wheels
The Toyota Corolla Hatchback enters the 2027 model year with updated equipment and attractive exterior options, but loses one of the best features of the previous version.
Digital Displays Become Standard
The biggest update happened inside the cabin, where large digital displays have become much more widespread across the lineup. The SE version now comes standard with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster along with an 8-inch touchscreen, while the XSE gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a larger 10.5-inch multimedia touchscreen as standard equipment.
Buyers who do not want to upgrade to the top-tier XSE version can now choose the new SE Premium Package. It includes the same larger touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital cluster, making the more affordable trim significantly more premium.
Exterior Changes and New Wheels
Exterior changes are subtle and include new paint colors Inked and Blueprint, but without the bright mustard shade recently introduced in Japan. The main update for MY27 is an available set of original 18-inch gloss white Toyota wheels, which will look especially good on dark body colors and are sure to appeal to fans of Japanese style.
Loss of the Sporty FX Version
The bad news is that the sporty-looking (but not sporty-driving) Corolla FX version, introduced for MY25 with the same white wheels, did not make it into the 2027 lineup. This leaves buyers with a simple choice between SE and XSE, but you can dress up the SE with a spoiler and wheels to make it look like the old FX.
Mechanicals Unchanged
Under the hood, nothing has changed. The familiar 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine continues to produce 169 hp (171 PS) and 151 lb-ft of torque, sending power to the front wheels via a Dynamic Shift CVT. Do not look for a manual transmission – Toyota has not offered one on the American Corolla since 2022.
Prices start at $24,780 before Toyota’s $1,295 delivery fee, giving the SE and XSE on-road costs of $26,075 and $29,170 respectively – these figures have increased by $200 and $500 compared to last year’s models. The updated hatchbacks are expected to arrive at dealerships later this summer, but before that, we should learn about the changes Toyota is preparing for the Corolla sedan.
It is interesting that Toyota decided to drop the FX version, which was popular for its style but lacked sporty performance. This may indicate that the company aims to simplify the lineup and focus on more premium trims. At the same time, adding the white 18-inch wheels as an option allows buyers to create their desired look themselves, which is a smart compromise. The price increase of $200-500 is modest given the addition of digital instrument clusters, making the Corolla Hatchback more competitive in its segment.
