Toyota GR GT receives a hybrid powertrain with a twin-turbo V8 producing from 641 horsepower

Toyota has finally unveiled the long-awaited high-performance sports car with a front-engine layout – the GR GT, as well as its racing version, the GR GT3. These models are designed to compete with cars like the Mercedes-AMG GT and participate in GT3 competitions.

Successor to Legends

The new GR GT becomes the successor to iconic models such as the Toyota 2000GT and the Lexus LFA. Despite its simple name, this is the most powerful car ever to bear the Toyota badge. Its appearance is the result of years of development.

Platform and Construction

The car is built on a special, fully aluminum platform. The body construction makes extensive use of carbon fiber components. The claimed weight of the model is 1750 kg or less, with a weight distribution of 45:55 front to rear. Dimensions: length – 4820 mm, width – 2000 mm, height – 1195 mm, wheelbase – 2725 mm.

The Heart of the New Grand Tourer

Under the hood of the GR GT lies a new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The powertrain is equipped with a dry sump system and an eight-speed automatic transmission mounted at the rear. The drive is rear-wheel drive. The engine is supplemented by an electric motor designed to improve responsiveness.

Power and Dynamics

The stated power is 641 hp (or more), and torque is 850 Nm (or more). The top speed is expected to exceed 320 km/h. Precise acceleration figures have not been disclosed yet.

Exterior and Chassis

The exterior of the GR GT is distinguished by a low stance, a massive hood, and aggressive lighting that hints at its racing origins. The car sits on 20-inch wheels with 265/35 tires at the front and 325/30 tires at the rear. The braking system is ceramic-composite, both front and rear. The suspension is independent, with double wishbones on all wheels.

Interior Design

The interior, trimmed in red leather and Alcantara, is unlike other Toyota models. Features include a digital instrument panel with unique graphics, a new steering wheel with a GR logo, paddle shifters, and a large central multimedia screen. The cabin looks functional and driver-oriented.

Future of the Model

As the development of both the road-going GR GT and the racing GR GT3 is still ongoing, some specifications may be adjusted. Information on price is not yet available, but customer deliveries are expected to begin in 2027.

The arrival of the GR GT marks Toyota’s return to the segment of high-performance sports grand tourers, filling a niche that has remained vacant since the end of Lexus LFA production. The emphasis on an aluminum platform and carbon architecture indicates the seriousness of the brand’s intentions in competitive battles. The success of this model on racetracks in the GT3 category could significantly enhance its prestige and status among car enthusiasts, repeating the path taken by many legendary sports cars.
