Toyota Introduces a More Affordable Version of the Ferrari-Inspired SUV, But It Remains Unattainable

Toyota Introduces the Updated Crown Sport for the Japanese Market

Toyota has updated the Crown Sport for the Japanese market, introducing a new base grade and a special 70th-anniversary version. This crossover is often compared to the Ferrari Purosangue due to design similarities, albeit at a significantly more accessible price.

The new Sport G grade has allowed the starting price to be reduced to ¥5,200,000 (approximately $35,600), although this required the removal of a number of standard features compared to the previous base version.

Crown Sport The 70th Anniversary Version

The special Crown Sport The 70th version features a two-tone body paint with a Precious Metal combination on the roof and pillars, as well as 21-inch matte black wheels. The interior uses Black Luster leather with copper accents, and 70th-anniversary logos are placed on the instrument panel, gear shift lever, illumination, and other elements.

Two powertrains are available: a 231 hp hybrid and a 302 hp plug-in hybrid, both with E-Four AWD all-wheel drive.

New Base Sport G Grade

The Sport G grade is offered exclusively with the hybrid powertrain. Differences from the Sport Z include the absence of driver monitoring systems, a heated steering wheel and rear seats, front seat ventilation, and other comfort features. Standard equipment includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen, six speakers, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

For the 2025 model year, an option for matte black wheels has also appeared for the RS version, and a smart entry system has become standard for the entire lineup. The top-of-the-line RS Limited-Matte Metal version retains its status as the most expensive model in the series, priced at ¥8,200,000 ($56,100).

The Crown Sport updates demonstrate Toyota’s strategy to expand the model’s accessibility through a new base version, while simultaneously emphasizing the series’ premium status through special editions. This allows the brand to reach a wider audience, from those seeking affordable hybrids to enthusiasts of exclusive versions.
