Toyota showed dealers the new Celica but still keeps its launch a secret

New Toyota Celica: what is known

Rumors about the return of the iconic Toyota Celica are gaining momentum. According to reports, work on the new model is already in its final stages, but there is no official confirmation for the US market yet. The last generation of the Celica was produced 20 years ago.

Toyota representatives confirmed that the company is indeed considering the possibility of reviving the model.

“We are working on a product that, if everything goes well, could become the new Celica,” said the senior vice president of product planning at Toyota Motor North America.

However, a final decision has not yet been made, especially regarding the American market.

Technical details and prospects

Development is underway in Japan, so details remain unknown for now. However, Toyota has already shown concept versions to dealers, and test prototypes are evaluating various powertrain options. Interestingly, the new Celica is unlikely to be an electric vehicle.

“Akio Toyoda has noted that for GR sports models, the emotions of driving are important, and they are not necessarily tied to traditional internal combustion engines or electric powertrains,” added a company representative.

The question of pricing and positioning remains open. Taking inflation into account, the last Celica would cost around $33,400 today, roughly matching the current GR86. In any case, Toyota is seriously considering the possibility of bringing back one of its most famous nameplates.

Despite the lack of official confirmation, interest in the new Celica has already sparked a wave of discussion among car enthusiasts. The company traditionally takes a cautious approach to reviving classic models, so the final decision will likely depend on market trends and dealer feedback. If the project gets the green light, it could be a significant step in expanding Toyota’s sports car lineup.
