It’s hard to recognize among the ruins, but before you are the twisted remains of the legendary fourth-generation Supra. The car was completely destroyed after a chase in Florida, which also led to an arrest and two non-lethal injuries.
According to patrol reports, an observer noticed this A80 Supra model traveling at a speed of 150 km/h in a 55 mph (89 km/h) zone on the Howard Frankland Bridge. A law enforcement officer attempted to stop the violator, but he began to flee, accelerating over 160 km/h (100 mph).
After catching up, the officer performed a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver, causing the coupe to spin out and crash into a light pole. The car instantly burst into flames. The consequences of the accident are catastrophic—the front end is completely destroyed, the rear bumper is torn off, and the glass is shattered.
Considering the scale of the accident, the two people in the cabin got off relatively lightly. However, they were still taken to the hospital for examination.
Florida Highway Patrol
The driver was identified as 31-year-old Brandon Ramnarine from Tampa. He is charged with high-speed fleeing and eluding. This is classified as a second-degree felony, which carries a potential fine of up to $10,000 and 15 years in prison.
Law enforcement used this case to remind people of the dangers of fleeing. While speeding by 61 km/h (38 mph) is a serious violation, the consequences are far less severe than attempting to evade pursuit.
