According to patrol reports, an observer spotted this A80 Supra model traveling at a speed of 150 km/h in a 89 km/h zone on the Howard Frankland Bridge. A law enforcement officer tried to stop the violator, but he began to flee, accelerating over 160 km/h.
After catching up, the officer performed a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver, which caused the coupe to spin out and crash into a light pole. The car instantly burst into flames. The consequences of the crash are catastrophic—the front end is completely destroyed, the rear bumper is torn off, and the glass is shattered.
Considering the scale of the accident, the two people inside got off relatively lightly. However, they were still taken to the hospital for examination.
Florida Highway Patrol
The driver was identified as 31-year-old Brandon Ramnarine from Tampa. He is charged with high-speed fleeing and eluding. This is classified as a second-degree felony, which carries a fine of up to $10,000 and 15 years in prison.
Law enforcement used this case to remind people of the dangers of fleeing. Although speeding by 61 km/h is a serious offense, the consequences are far less severe than attempting to evade pursuit.
