Skoda’s three-row electric car offers 373 miles in battle with Kia EV9

Skoda unveils design of new electric flagship Peaq

Every brand sooner or later needs a flagship, and Skoda is preparing its own. The company has released official sketches of the new Peaq model, which will be a fully electric three-row SUV. The world premiere will take place on June 23 in Monetier-Mornex, France.

Previously, the car’s shape could only be seen on camouflaged prototypes, but now the sketches reveal details. The production version develops ideas from the 2022 Vision 7S concept and will become the electric counterpart to the Kodiaq model.

Design and exterior features

The Peaq features the signature Tech-Deck front panel, like the smaller Epiq, but with additional lighting in the grille. T-shaped rear lights also carry over from the concept, now with their own LED signature. The front bumper has lost its massive protective element, instead adopting a more restrained shape that Skoda compares to a volcano.

The plastic trim on bumpers and wheel arches has a pronounced texture, hinting at the use of eco-friendly materials. As usual, the sketches somewhat exaggerate proportions, particularly wheel size. However, clean side lines, flush door handles, and sculpted areas above the front and rear wheel arches are visible.

Interior and technical specifications

Although the sketches focus on the exterior, much is already known about the interior. Key features include:

The Peaq is 4,874 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,965 mm. Skoda has confirmed two seating configurations: a five-seat version with a 1,010-liter trunk, or a seven-seat version with 299 liters behind the third row. Both versions feature a front trunk with a volume of 37 liters.

Powertrains and range

The electric SUV is built on the MEB platform. Two battery sizes and three powertrains are available:

The batteries have a capacity of 63 kWh or 91 kWh, providing a range of up to 600 km WLTP.

Production and competitors

The market debut of the Skoda Peaq is expected shortly after the June 23 premiere. Production will be established at the plant in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic. The model’s main competitors will be the Kia EV9, Hyundai Ioniq 9, and Peugeot E-5008.

Thus, Skoda is making a serious claim in the large electric SUV segment. The Peaq combines a spacious interior, modern design, and substantial range, making it a worthy rival to Korean and European competitors. Special attention should be paid to the use of eco-friendly materials, which aligns with modern sustainability trends. Entering the market right now, when demand for large electric vehicles is growing, could be a successful strategic move for the Czech brand.
