New Open Restomod Based on the Ferrari 550
Touring Superleggera is preparing to release an even more desirable version of its V12 Veloce restomod, based on the Ferrari 550. The Italian atelier has decided to remove part of the roof, introducing the new Aperta modification. This name is traditionally used by Ferrari for its most exclusive open-top models.
Targa-Style Design
The company has released a teaser of the upcoming new model, which will debut in June. The single darkened image shows a reimagined 550 with a panoramic rear window in the style of the Porsche 911 Targa, a roll hoop on the B-pillar, and a fully open cabin. Ferrari never offered this configuration for the production 550 model. The factory version was a coupe, and there was also a limited 550 Barchetta — a completely open car without serious weather protection. Last year, Touring Superleggera also presented its own version of the Barchetta.

Judging by the teaser, the layout looks excellent. Likely, the central roof panel will be manually removable. For comparison, the Ferrari 575 Superamerica, the open version of the updated 550, had a targa-style layout, but its roof panel rotated electrically, locking onto the rear deck. Unfortunately, that car had questionable design, which cannot be said of Touring’s creation.
Manual Gearbox and V12
The best news for enthusiasts: Touring Superleggera has not abandoned what they value most. Like the coupe, the Aperta version will retain the superb six-speed manual shifter with an exposed linkage, working in tandem with a naturally aspirated V12 engine. Power is expected to remain at 503 hp (510 hp), matching the Veloce coupe.

Modern Technology and Materials
The coupe, presented in 2024, received lightweight carbon fiber body panels, new lighting, and more expressive lines. It is also equipped with Brembo brakes and adaptive TracTive suspension, giving the old Ferrari modern road manners without destroying its analog character. Inside, there is rich brown leather and custom controls that modernize the cabin while preserving the original atmosphere.
Price and Limited Production
Only 30 units of the V12 Veloce coupe were planned, each costing €690,000 ($803,000) on top of the price of the donor Ferrari 550 Maranello. For comparison, the new 12Cilindri coupe and spider start from $466k/$512k. The Aperta is expected to be significantly more expensive due to the complexity of the conversion. More details will be revealed on June 26.
This restomod by Touring Superleggera is a prime example of how modern technology and design can breathe new life into classic models while preserving their soul. While modern Ferraris, such as the 12Cilindri, offer powerful V12 engines, they are no longer available with a manual gearbox. That is why projects like the V12 Veloce Aperta become especially valuable for collectors seeking an authentic driving experience. It is worth noting that the price of the restomod significantly exceeds the cost of a new car, which underscores its exclusivity and uniqueness.
