VW’s ID.Buzz camping package for $3,000 lets you sleep and use AC for two days without recharging

New “Good Night” package for VW ID.Buzz

Volkswagen hasn’t yet introduced a full-fledged “California” version of the ID.Buzz, but the new Good Night package launched in Europe is the closest thing yet. The electric minibus gets a double bed, V2L function, and an “overnight” mode, designed for buyers who prefer to spend the night in the van rather than booking a hotel.

Sleep and relaxation equipment

The core of the package is a bed frame with a folding mattress measuring 2 meters (78.7 inches) in length and 1.2 meters (47.2 inches) in width. It is installed above the folded rear seats, and when not in use, the entire structure is stored in the trunk.

Volkswagen has also added a window blackout set to shield from prying eyes. Combined with ventilation grilles installed on the side windows, which ensure air circulation inside the cabin overnight, this covers the basic needs for sleeping in a parked van.

The kit does not include an awning, but it does come with a table and two chairs, so the possibility of eating or drinking near the van is also provided.

Software and new features

Hardware is only half the story. The package also adds a new “Overnight” mode to the infotainment system, which keeps the air conditioning running for up to 48 hours and maintains a constant cabin temperature regardless of the weather outside. Complementing this is the V2L (vehicle-to-load) function, added with the 2026 model year updates, which allows the 230-volt outlet to deliver up to 2000 watts for powering e-bikes, laptops, refrigerators, and coffee makers.

Price and availability

And this brings us to the price. The Good Night package is available for all passenger versions of the ID.Buzz starting at €2,600 ($3,000) in Germany. The factory upgrade can be ordered now.

This package is a logical step for VW, allowing ID.Buzz owners to use it not only as everyday transportation but also as a compact camper for short trips. Given that the full-fledged “California” version has not yet been released, Good Night offers a balanced solution for those who want to sleep in the car without the need to buy expensive aftermarket kits. The V2L function and extended climate control operation make it particularly attractive for camping in various weather conditions, although the lack of an awning may be a drawback for some users.
