Here are the last refuges for supercars and exclusive cars

Luxury cars in Dubai’s junkyards

Dubai is famous for its luxury cars, but many of them eventually end up in scrapyards. Photographer Larry Chen recently visited local junkyards where he discovered an entire collection of damaged supercars. Among the finds was an almost new Lotus Eletre, likely awaiting disassembly. Next to it were exclusive models from Ferrari, Porsche, McLaren, and Rolls-Royce.

The Lotus Eletre is an electric crossover introduced in 2022, but deliveries only began in 2024. The found specimen has no visible body damage, but its air suspension has failed, causing the car to “sit” lower than usual. The door handles have also popped out, which may indicate internal problems. It’s possible the car was damaged by a flood, which could have harmed the electronics and interior.

A collection of exotics in the scrapyard

The yellow Eletre is just one of many luxury cars accumulating in Dubai’s junkyards. Larry Chen showed that one can find Bentley, Rolls-Royce, McLaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Aston Martin, and Maserati there. He called this place one of the most vibrant thanks to the color palette of premium cars.

This is probably one of the most amazing junkyards I have ever seen, said Chen.

The video shows that the scrapyard is well-organized – different sections are allocated for specific auto parts. This is important for those looking for parts, as new components for such cars can cost thousands of dollars. For example, carbon-ceramic brakes can run up to $50,000. A separate junkyard specializes in American muscle cars, such as Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge.

Such scrapyards are rare in the USA, so Chen was impressed by the number of enthusiast cars that ended up here. They tell a story about how even the most expensive cars can become unnecessary. The full video tour is available on YouTube.

Interestingly, even in this condition, these cars remain objects of interest. Some parts, such as body panels or engines, can get a second life, while others become exhibits in unusual collections. Such places remind us how quickly technology and fashion change the automotive world.
