You Can Build Your Own Audi RS2 Step by Step

Joint Project by Mattel and Audi

Companies Mattel Brick Shop, Hot Wheels, and Audi have introduced new collectible car models in 1:32 and 1:16 scales. The releases are dedicated to two legendary models: the Audi RS2 Avant and the Audi R8 LMS.

Audi RS2 Avant Model

The first release is a 1:32 scale model of the Audi RS2 Avant. This car was produced only from 1994 to 1995 and became the first model with the RS index in Audi’s history. The development was carried out jointly with Porsche.

The most important feature of the RS2 was its 2.2-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine, refined by Porsche engineers. It produced 311 hp and 410 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. In total, fewer than 2,900 units were produced, making it very rare to encounter an RS2 on the roads. The model from Mattel will cost $19.99.

Racing Audi R8 LMS

The second model is the Audi R8 LMS in 1:16 scale. This GT3 race car debuted in 2009 and has won the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring seven times, as well as numerous championship titles worldwide. The model includes a functional steering wheel, interchangeable decals, splitters, and spoilers. Its price will start from $49.99.

Ted Wu, Head of Global Vehicles and Designers at Mattel, noted: “The collaboration between Mattel Brick Shop and Hot Wheels gives adult collectors and car enthusiasts the opportunity to interact with their favorite cars, such as these legendary Audi models, in a completely new way – by building them.”

Availability and Release Dates

Pre-orders for the models are already available via Amazon, Target, Walmart, and directly on Mattel Creations. The official release is expected in the autumn of this year.

These models continue the tradition of collaboration between Hot Wheels and Audi, which began back in 1993. For collectors, they will become not just toys, but valuable exhibits reflecting important milestones in automotive history. The limited production run of the RS2 Avant and the R8 LMS’s successes in the world of motorsports make them particularly attractive to brand enthusiasts.
