Thousands of Jeep Hybrid Vehicles Could Suddenly Lose Power While Driving

Stellantis Vehicle Recall Due to Safety Issues

Stellantis has announced two recalls affecting nearly 100,000 vehicles in the United States. The issues include malfunctions with airbags and the risk of engine power loss.

Problems with Jeep Hybrid Models

The first recall concerns 91,787 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe hybrid SUVs manufactured between 2022 and 2026. These vehicles have been found to have a software error that could lead to a sudden loss of power while driving.

The government reports that the SUVs may experience an overload of the battery energy control module microprocessor, causing it to reboot. During some of these reboots, the hybrid system control processor incorrectly interprets a signal from the battery module, which can lead to a loss of power.

The manufacturer has already recorded 96 customer complaints, 110 field reports, and 320 other records related to this issue. Fortunately, no accidents or injuries have been reported. However, there is currently no solution to fix the problem.

Airbag Malfunctions in Minivans

The second recall concerns 985 Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager minivans from the 2025 model year, which were found to have improperly sealed side airbags. This means the airbags may not maintain sufficient pressure upon activation.

The issue was discovered during summer testing for passenger ejection prevention in the 2025 Pacifica model. The vehicle failed to meet ejection mitigation requirements, prompting an investigation.

The investigation revealed a manufacturing issue at the supplier. To resolve the matter, it is planned to replace the side airbags with ones that are properly sealed.

These recalls highlight the importance of continuous vehicle safety monitoring, especially considering the growing number of electric and hybrid systems. Although no serious incidents have been reported so far, such situations can affect consumer trust in new technologies. Manufacturers should accelerate the search for solutions to prevent similar problems in the future.
