New Jaguar Type 01 spotted on the streets of Monaco
A lightly camouflaged prototype of the Jaguar Type 01 was spotted during public tests. The car appeared in Monaco ahead of the Formula E race weekend, which is a clear signal about the brand’s target audience. Jaguar aims to attract buyers who typically choose Bentley or Rolls-Royce.
Key design features
Among the model’s key features are the absence of a traditional radiator grille and a radical interior. The prototype features a red-white-beige color scheme, with the official name Type 01 applied to the roof. The car attracts attention not only with its color but also with its shape: a long hood, thin daytime running lights, LED headlights, and flush door handles. There is no rear window, and the trunk has a small opening.
Interior and technical specifications
Inside, a massive steering wheel with thick horizontal spokes housing important controls is expected. There will also be a large panoramic infotainment screen and a digital instrument cluster. Regarding the powertrain, the Type 01 will feature a 120 kWh battery pack powering three electric motors. Total output will exceed 1,000 horsepower, with torque reaching 1,300 Nm.
Market positioning
The development of the new electric sedan has sparked considerable controversy, especially after the controversial 2024 marketing campaign. However, setting aside the advertising aspects, the new electric vehicle has the potential to occupy a small but important niche, competing with Bentley and Rolls-Royce. Jaguar hopes to lure some clients away from these premium brands.

The global premiere of the Jaguar Type 01 is scheduled for September. For now, it is only a prototype, but it is already clear that the company is betting on bold design and high performance to make its mark in the luxury electric vehicle segment. The abandonment of the traditional radiator grille and extreme body shapes elicit mixed reactions, but it is precisely this approach that could help the brand stand out among competitors. It is worth noting that despite its electric nature, the car retains classic proportions with a long hood, paying homage to the brand’s history. However, the absence of a rear window could pose a challenge for conventional drivers, although in modern cars this is often compensated for by cameras. Overall, the Type 01 looks like an attempt by Jaguar not just to return, but to reinvent itself for a new era, taking risks but also having a chance at success among the most discerning buyers.
