Presentation of the updated Tonale
Alfa Romeo presented the updated Tonale crossover last month, and now it is debuting in North America at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Along with it, the 33 Stradale model will be shown, which is also making its first appearance at an auto show in this region.
Updates and pricing policy
The company announced that the base price of the Tonale will be $36,995, excluding a destination charge of $3,250. This is $500 more expensive than the previous version, bringing the total cost to $40,245.
For this money, buyers will get a new radiator grille and a sportier front bumper. The color palette has also been expanded and now includes Giallo Ocra, Rosso Brera, and Verde Monza, with an option for a contrasting black roof added for $95. The interior has been updated with improved materials, colors, and finishes.
Trims and options
The base Sprint trim is equipped with LED lighting, glossy black accents, and 18-inch wheels. Aluminum pedals and fabric seats with contrasting stitching are also included.
For $1,995, you can add the Premium package, which includes ventilated leather seats, an ambient lighting system, and a hands-free power liftgate.
The mid-level Veloce trim starts from $41,495 and features 19-inch wheels, red Brembo calipers, a dual-mode suspension, aluminum paddle shifters, and perforated leather seats.
The Sport Speciale trim also starts from $41,495 but differs with silver accents, glossy black Brembo calipers, and 20-inch wheels with a tri-spoke design. The interior features exclusive black-pearl seats with Alcantara and white stitching, as well as an Alcantara-wrapped dashboard.
All trims offer additional options, including a sunroof for $1,500, a Harmon Kardon audio system for $750, and an Active Assist package for $1,250, which includes a driver assistance system, automatic dimming mirror, surround-view cameras, and parking assistance.
Changes in the powertrain
One of the key changes was the abandonment of the hybrid powertrain. All versions for the US are now equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 268 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

33 Stradale at the auto show
The 33 Stradale model, introduced in 2023, is hand-built by the Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera atelier. Inspired by the 1967 Tipo 33 Stradale model, it features dihedral doors and a carbon fiber monocoque.
The car is equipped with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine producing 630 hp, which works with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and an electronic limited-slip differential. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes less than three seconds, and the top speed is 333 km/h.
The Tonale updates demonstrate Alfa Romeo’s desire to strengthen its position in the competitive compact crossover market. The abandonment of the hybrid version for the American market may be related to the demand for more powerful and dynamic powertrains, while European versions are likely to retain eco-friendly options. The debut alongside the 33 Stradale highlights the connection between modern technology and the brand’s historical heritage, which has always been an important part of Alfa Romeo’s image.
