New Recall for the 2026 Hyundai Palisade
Hyundai Motor America has announced a new recall for the large three-row Palisade crossover of the 2026 model year. The issue concerns the wiring in the seatbelt mechanism for the left-side third-row seat.
What is the Malfunction?
According to regulators, excessive tension on the seatbelt when fastening can damage the internal wiring inside the buckle. If damaged, the system may stop recognizing whether a passenger is buckled up, posing a direct safety threat. This is especially critical for a vehicle oriented towards family use.
Scale of the Problem
Nearly 47,000 vehicles are at risk. Specifically, the recall affects 34,677 units of the 2026 Palisade produced from May 8 to November 22, 2025, as well as 12,110 units of the Palisade Hybrid assembled from August 11 to November 17, 2025.
How Was the Defect Discovered?
The manufacturer received initial reports of a potential issue on vehicles in the Korean market in early January. During the investigation, five cases of the same malfunction were already identified in the United States. Fortunately, no accidents, fires, injuries, or fatalities related to this defect have been reported so far.
Problem Resolution Plan
Hyundai has already sent repair instructions to dealers. The technical solution involves installing a wiring harness extended by 110 mm (4.3 inches), which will reduce tension in the system. If necessary, the entire original seatbelt buckle will also be replaced. Owners of the affected vehicles should begin receiving official recall notifications starting May 18.
Context and Consequences
This is already the second seat-related recall for the 2026 Palisade within one week. Earlier, a problem was identified with power-adjustable seats that could incorrectly detect the presence of a passenger or an object. A similar recall has already affected the updated Kia Telluride, which shares many technical components. This new seatbelt situation logically raises the question: could a similar problem arise in the Telluride model as well? For the Palisade, which generally received positive reviews after its debut, such incidents become an unpleasant companion to a successful model. Such cases underscore the importance of thorough quality monitoring even for vehicles already in serial production, especially when it comes to the safety of rear-row passengers, where children often travel. The manufacturer’s swift response to incidents and the existence of a clear repair plan are key to maintaining customer trust.
