In the UK, Production of Iconic Late 90s Subaru Resumes

Only 25 units of the legends of past years will be released. We are talking about the 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STi, the road version of the nineties rally car. However, the car will go into production under the name Prodrive P25, and it will be manufactured by the British company Prodrive.

The restomod Prodrive P25 looks almost the same as the original coupe Subaru Impreza 22B STi. However, many external body panels have been replaced with carbon fiber, and the technical equipment is completely new. The full premiere of the Prodrive P25 will take place on June 23 as part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed (UK), but you can already take a look at the first official photos of the restomod and familiarize yourself with its key features.

Externally, the Prodrive P25 is barely distinguishable from the 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STi coupe (only 424 of these were made). The number 22 in the designation indicates a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged boxer engine with 280 hp.

The restomod Prodrive P25 will be based not on the expensive specimens of the Impreza 22B STi, but on the more mass-produced GC8 generation coupes, which can be sacrificed. Essentially, only the load-bearing skeleton of the body remains from the donor, while the roof, wings, hood, trunk lid, sills, bumpers, and mirror housings are newly made from carbon fiber.

Thanks to the carbon fiber and the installation of a lithium-ion battery instead of a lead-acid one, the sports car has lost more than half a centner: the curb weight is less than 1200 kg. The restomod’s engine is made on the modern 2.5-liter Subaru block: new sleeves, pistons, rods, valve gear, a high-performance Garrett turbocharger with intercooler, Akrapovic exhaust system made of stainless steel and titanium are installed. The declared output is over 400 hp and 600 Nm. The transmission is a 6-speed racing sequential with paddle shifters, and the declared shift speed is 80 ms.

In addition, the driver has at his disposal a rally-style hydraulic handbrake with a high lever, which disengages the center differential when engaged. The inter-wheel differentials are self-locking. The Prodrive P25 accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds!

The first units of the Prodrive P25 will be delivered to customers by the end of the current year, with the restomod priced at 460 thousand pounds sterling… Too much? But don’t worry, all 25 planned production cars have already been sold.
