This Swedish Universal Car Has the Spirit of America

An Unconventional Volvo with the Heart of a Corvette

Externally, this car looks like an ordinary 1990 Volvo 740, but the Corvette wheels hint that something special is hiding under the hood. And that’s really the case – the entire powertrain, transmission, and suspension are taken from the sports car.

The project, named “Volvette,” took the owner 18 months and about 1900 hours of work. Serious modification was required to integrate the Corvette components into the Volvo body: the suspensions had to be reworked and the driveshaft lengthened. The engine also received updates in the form of dry sumps and other track upgrades.

The car’s interior is maximally simplified – the climate control, audio system, and rear seats have been removed. Instead, a safety cage, sports seats, and instruments from the Corvette have been installed.

This project is reminiscent of another similar car owned by actor Paul Newman. He also created a fast Volvo based on a Corvette, but with fewer modifications. Such projects prove that custom cars can be not only powerful but also very interesting from an engineering standpoint.

Today, such conversions are becoming increasingly popular among car enthusiasts looking for unique solutions. At the same time, they demonstrate how classic models can be revived with modern technology, creating true masterpieces of automotive tuning.
