GMC’s Priciest 2027 Sierra Has Over 1.5 Meters of Screens

A New Era of V8 Engines

Over the past decade, pickup buyers have watched trucks transform into expensive luxury items, technology showcases, and off-road toys all at once. GMC believes it has taken another step forward with the all-new 2027 Sierra 1500. This pickup gets a fresh design, an updated interior, and, importantly for enthusiasts, a new generation of naturally aspirated V8 engines. The biggest surprise may be how aggressively GMC is positioning it against competitors.

Unveiled ahead of its expected launch later this year, the updated 2027 Sierra introduces the sixth-generation 5.7 and 6.6-liter Small Block V8 engines. GMC is not yet revealing power figures but notes that both engines feature advanced combustion, cooling, fuel injection, and management systems that improve performance and smoothness. Chevrolet made similar claims about the Silverado when it debuted last week.

Those who don’t want to choose a gasoline V8 also have options. GMC will continue to sell the Duramax diesel and the updated four-cylinder TurboMax. All engines work in tandem with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Pro, Elevation, AT4, Denali, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate trims are expected to remain unchanged.

Updated Design and Luxurious Interior

On the outside, the Sierra has a more vertical and muscular look with an enlarged grille, updated LED lighting, welcome and farewell animations, and optional dual exhaust tips. This time, they don’t look like HDMI ports!

Inside, GMC raises the luxury bar with a redesigned cabin across all trims. Genuine wood inlays, a panoramic roof, and a new MultiPro center armrest that can serve as a work surface are available. The flagship Denali Ultimate version is a technology showcase.

Over 60 Inches of Displays

GMC claims it has over 60 inches of combined digital displays, including a 16.3-inch infotainment screen, an 11.5-inch passenger display, a 12.2-inch instrument cluster, a 15-inch head-up display, and an 8.5-inch camera rearview mirror. In the AT4X, Denali, and Elevation trims, the central screen pivots away, revealing a storage compartment similar to the lower screen of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

Physical Buttons Remain

The Sierra also retains actual physical buttons for some functions.

“We know our customers want physical controls,” said interior design manager Theresa Pinazzo to Car and Driver, adding, “We know they want a tactile connection with the truck.”

The pickup comes standard with the Super Cruise system and trailering capability, allowing hands-free driving on compatible roads even while towing a trailer.

The AT4X Off-Road Version

Meanwhile, the AT4X focuses on off-road capability. It gets 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, new Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers, front and rear electronic locking differentials, and a suspension lifted by two inches. The cabin also received useful updates: seats with more pronounced lateral support, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and metal speaker grilles. GMC claims this will be the most powerful AT4X version they have ever produced.

An Ambitious Statement

The boldest claim, however, concerns neither the screens, luxury, nor off-road equipment. GMC states that the new Sierra is “the truck against which all others will be measured.” That is a high bar in a segment filled with strong competitors, but we will find out if the updated Sierra can live up to this confidence when it arrives at dealerships by the end of 2026.

The new 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 is betting on a return to its roots with new naturally aspirated V8s, which could be a key advantage in an era of total turbocharging and electrification. At the same time, the company does not forget about technology and luxury, offering a huge number of displays and premium materials. Time will tell if it truly becomes the benchmark in its class, but it is already clear that GMC is trying to appeal to the widest possible audience: from fans of traditional engines to advocates of modern technology and extreme off-roading.
