An Old ‘Zaporozhets’ Unexpectedly Spotted in California (video)

An old ZAZ-966 from 1969 was unexpectedly spotted in California. For the USA, the ‘Zaporozhets’ is a true rarity. This is reported by Focus.

In the American suburbs, the ‘Zaporozhets’ looks very bright. Moreover, the car has been restored to an ideal condition and repainted in a caramel color.

For the USA, the ‘Zaporozhets’ is a true rarity, as there are very few such cars across the ocean — only 15 ZAZ-966s are registered in the USA. Their cost sometimes exceeds $20,000. ‘Zaporozhets’ cars were exported, but only to European countries, and they started being imported to America only in the 90s.

Very often such cars are brought to the USA by immigrants from former socialist countries. This particular ZAZ-966 belongs to an immigrant from Hungary and also includes an East German Trabant in the collection.

The ZAZ-966 is an early version of the second-generation ‘Zaporozhets’, produced from 1966 to 1972. The model was equipped with 0.9 L (30 hp) and 1.2 L (40 hp) engines and a 4-speed manual transmission. The car is capable of reaching 120 km/h. This particular ZAZ received a 0.9-liter engine.
