New Chinese off-roader Dongfeng Warrior M817
Chinese automaker Dongfeng is preparing to unveil the new Warrior M817 off-roader. This is a hybrid vehicle with over 700 hp, which could become a serious competitor in the SUV market. The model will have two trim options – base and flagship.
Design and technical features
The Warrior M817 inherits an aggressive design from the more powerful M-Hero 917 model but looks slightly more restrained. The base version features an open radiator grille, while the flagship version has a simulated black grille. Distinctive traits include sharp body lines, massive wheel arches, and high ground clearance.
According to reports, the off-roader has approach angles of 30 degrees, making it suitable for challenging conditions.
Technical specifications include an optional air suspension that increases ground clearance to 1919 mm. The rear is equipped with a spare tire (in the base version) or an additional luggage compartment (in the top trim).
It is still unknown whether the model will be available outside China, but the availability of both left- and right-hand drive versions offers some hope for export. For comparison, the electric M-Hero 917 delivers 1073 hp, but even 700 hp in the hybrid version is a very solid figure for an off-roader.
The electric and hybrid vehicle market in China continues to grow rapidly, and Dongfeng is clearly trying to establish itself in the premium segment. The Warrior M817 could become an interesting alternative for those looking for a powerful but not overly extravagant off-roader. Particularly impressive is the combination of a compact engine with a powerful electric component, allowing for high performance without significantly increasing fuel consumption.
