New Mercedes-AMG GLC EQ Could Get Over 900 Horsepower
Thanks to a new platform, more advanced batteries, and improved electric motors, the all-electric Mercedes-Benz GLC EQ becomes the company’s most capable electric vehicle to date. Mercedes clearly intends to expand its electric GLC lineup to compete effectively with the BMW iX3 and Chinese manufacturers.
Currently, only one version of the SUV is presented — the GLC 400 4Matic with EQ technology, producing 483 hp thanks to two electric motors. However, in the modern world of electric vehicles, this is no longer enough, and buyers expect supercar-level performance.
Mercedes’ solution will be a true AMG version of the GLC EQ. This SUV will combine a more aggressive look with a significant performance boost, taking it to a whole new level.
Design Changes
The prototype, captured in a deep matte black color, has camouflage on the front and rear, hiding some of the changes. Among the main updates are a more aggressive front bumper, modified air intakes, and a new radiator grille. The car will also receive new black-finished alloy wheels, updated ventilated brake discs, and more powerful brake calipers.
The most interesting detail might be the active spoiler on the roof. It is usually in a retracted state, but on the prototype, it was spotted fully raised. Given the car’s planned power, the spoiler will have plenty to work with.
The rear lights will likely carry over from the standard electric GLC, but a new rear bumper will complete the car’s updated look.
Supercar Power
According to sources, the AMG version of the GLC will follow the same path as the electric GT 4-Door and the brand’s dedicated electric SUV, receiving three advanced axial-flux motors from YASA. The target is over 900 hp, which should be enough for a 0-60 mph (96 km/h) sprint in less than three seconds.
Furthermore, the AMG model may use new prismatic battery cells instead of the cylindrical ones in the standard GLC, improving power density and thermal performance. These cells could also enable DC fast charging at up to 400 kW, an improvement over the standard 330 kW and matching the iX3’s figures.
Regarding the debut, there is a high probability that the car will be presented in the fall at the Paris Motor Show in October, with sales likely starting shortly thereafter.
The development of electric AMG models shows how priorities are changing in the automotive industry. Over 900 hp for a family SUV seemed like fantasy just a few years ago, but now it has become a technical reality. Such specifications not only raise the bar for competitors but also pose new challenges regarding handling, safety, and efficiency. The success of this model will largely depend on how successfully the engineers balance incredible dynamics with the everyday practicality and comfort that have always been the strengths of Mercedes-Benz.
