In Germany, a unique rally off-roader Mercedes‑Benz G 600 TE AMG, prepared for participation in the “Dakar” marathon, has been put up for sale. This is a rare factory project from the late 1980s, based on the G-Class with serious modifications for extreme racing. This is reported by “Mechatronik”.
The car belongs to an experimental series developed for participation in desert rallies. The full-size off-roader received a reinforced frame, a modified suspension with long travel, and special rally equipment characteristic of Dakar-class vehicles from the late 20th century.
Mercedes-Benz G 600 TE AMG: technology and features
Under the hood is a 6.0-liter gasoline V8, modified by the AMG division. The engine is paired with an automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel drive. The powertrain setup is focused on high torque and endurance in difficult conditions.
The off-roader is equipped with differential locks, increased ground clearance, and special off-road wheels. The body received widened wheel arches, additional external equipment, and safety elements required for rally raids.
Rally G-Class for “Dakar”: a rarity for collectors
The Mercedes-Benz G 600 TE AMG was created as an engineering prototype, not a production model. This is precisely why such cars almost never appear on the open market. This example has retained its original configuration and has documented provenance.
The seller discloses the price of the rare rally off-roader upon request. Due to the uniqueness of the project and its direct connection to the history of Mercedes-Benz’s participation in the “Dakar” marathon, this G-Class is of particular interest to collectors and motorsport enthusiasts.
