Rare Ferrari sports car caught fire in the USA for $3 million (photo)

In the USA, a Ferrari 512M from 1971 caught fire on the racetrack. The collectible sports car suffered significant damage. This is reported by Focus. The incident took place at the Watkins Glen circuit in the state of New York at the end of July. The owner of the Ferrari 512M decided to test the car on the racetrack, and went out on the track in the evening when the security service and firefighters had already gone home. The Ferrari sports car caught fire on the racetrack – flames broke out of the engine compartment. The driver was able to stop the car and quickly get out of it, but the fire was not extinguished immediately. In the photo, the rear part of the Ferrari 512M is seriously damaged. Repairing the sports car will be expensive. According to preliminary data, the cause of the fire was a damaged fuel hose: gasoline leaked and caught fire from contact with the hot engine. The 1971 Ferrari 512M is a very rare sports model. Only 15 of these cars were manufactured. The 5.0-liter V12 with 610 hp accelerates the 815 kg aluminum sports car to 310 km/h. The price of the Ferrari 512M now exceeds $3 million. This specific Ferrari 512M was driven by American racer Sam Posey. In 1971, he finished third in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
