Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka made a very unconventional proposal – to demand compensation from the EU for cars with European license plates. Allegedly, Ukrainians helped them get rid of the junk.
No, this is not a joke – the official seriously stated: “We need not to forget about the big gift we gave to the European Union by buying all the ‘euro plates’, which pollute the air in cities. I think we need to raise the question that the EU, especially Poland and Lithuania, still owes us for the fact that we, with our health and poor air quality, are helping the EU tackle climate change challenges and the ‘Green Deal’.”
It is difficult for us to comment on this. It would be better if the EU representation in Ukraine did not see this statement, as it may seem at least strange to them.
