The Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau of Ukraine has decided to exempt servicemen and their military units from compensation for damage caused in traffic accidents.
As reported by the press service of the agency, if an accident is caused by Ukrainian military personnel and they do not have a valid MTPL policy, compensation to the affected party will be paid from the MTSBU protection fund (in accordance with paragraph 41.1.a of the Law of Ukraine ‘On the Mandatory Insurance of Civil Liability of Land Vehicle Owners’).
Moreover, all monetary recoveries based on previously made court decisions will be stopped. The innovation will be effective during martial law and for six months after its end.
“Since the beginning of the war, MTSBU has been doing everything possible to support Ukrainian citizens and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Our defenders are now focused on their main task – the defense of the country, so nothing should distract them from it, not even insurance,” said MTSBU General Director Volodymyr Shevchenko.
