Very soon, incredibly cheap used cars from Germany could pour into Ukraine. And it’s not just about old diesel cars. Restrictions on the entry of diesel models are gradually being introduced, but now the Germans have decided to target petrol vehicles of Euro-1 and Euro-2 standards (1992-1999), reports AutoBild. According to the Federal Environment Agency, there are still 2.1 million of such cars in Germany.
The issue with old petrol cars is the same as with diesels – increased nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the exhaust.
Experts have estimated that a Euro-1 petrol engine emits as much NOx as a Euro-4 diesel.
The introduction of Euro-3 standards in 1999 solved this problem, and since then, nitrogen oxides are practically non-existent in the exhaust of petrol engines. Many popular models here fall under this category: BMW 5 Series E39 and even E34, BMW 3 E36, Mercedes W124 and the first E-Class W210, Audi A4 and A6, Opel Vectra, Peugeot 406. In general, the list can go on for a long time.

Of course, if the Yuzhanina laws are adopted (and they might be considered as early as tomorrow), customs clearance of cars from Germany will not be cheap.
For a 20-year-old petrol car with a 2.0-liter engine, for instance, you will have to pay 2,000 euros just in excise duty.
But on the other hand, these cars will be given away for pennies – at best for a few hundred euros. Of course, not all of them will be in “live” condition, but we think that decent specimens can still be found.
