A case of the theft of expensive retro cars has been solved in Uman. The cars that disappeared a year ago have been found, and the suspect of committing the crime has been detained. This is reported by Focus, referring to the press service of the Main Department of National Police in Cherkasy region.

Vintage cars were stolen back in February 2022. A resident of Uman contacted the police with a statement about the disappearance of three cars – a GAZ-21 Volga from 1965, as well as rare Mercedes-Benz 170V and Mercedes-Benz 540K convertibles (both from 1938).

During operational search activities, one car was found in Uman, and two more in the village of Pikivets in Uman district. The suspect was also detained – he turned out to be a 45-year-old local resident.

It turned out that the attacker managed to get into the garage with the rare retro cars, using a tow truck to remove them. According to investigator Anna Ternovska, the collected evidence and the results of examinations indicate his guilt.

Part 2 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine provides for a punishment of imprisonment for a term of 5 to 8 years for the theft of several cars. An application for a precautionary measure in the form of detention has been submitted to court for the suspect.
