Your grandfather’s favorite Škoda received an electric update

A modern take on the classic Škoda Favorit

Designer Ludmil Slavov has presented his concept of an updated version of the Škoda Favorit — a model produced from 1987 to 1994. His renders showcase a crossover with a contemporary design that simultaneously pays homage to the original. This is not the first look back at Škoda’s historic models: earlier this month, the company revealed a reimagined version of the 1899 Laurin & Klement Slavia B motorcycle.

The original Favorit was the last independently developed Škoda model before the company was acquired by the Volkswagen Group in 1991. Despite limited resources and development conditions, the car became successful and helped the brand solidify its identity. It was equipped with a 1.3-liter engine producing 62 horsepower, and despite its modest specs, it was exported to many countries.

Updated design and the electric vehicle trend

Slavov’s modern concept took approximately 120 hours to create. It retains the design features of the original Bertone styling but transforms the Favorit into an electric crossover, reminiscent of models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The designer intentionally avoided the modern Tech-Deck Face style, keeping the front end more minimalist, like the classic version.

Among the concept’s features are slim LED headlights with semi-transparent covers, reminiscent of the original’s large headlights, as well as a floating roof, stylish C-shaped pillars, and an illuminated Škoda logo at the rear. Additionally, a sportier version has been developed with more aggressive bumpers, a diffuser, and a quick-release hood.

The Škoda Favorit remains an important part of the brand’s history, and this concept demonstrates how a classic car can be given new life in modern times. At the same time, it shows that even in the era of electrification and crossovers, it’s possible to maintain a connection with the past without losing relevance.
