Few people know that at one time, UAZ planned to launch a hybrid successor to the Bukhanka into production. However, the advanced UAZ-2970 never went into series production.
The UAZ-2970 minibus was developed in 2006. It was primarily intended for military needs, although the emergence of a civilian version was not ruled out.
The rechargeable UAZ hybrid was equipped with an MZ-514 turbodiesel engine producing 98 hp and two 81-hp electric motors.
The vehicle could reach 110 km/h and consumed an average of 11.5 l/100 km. Moreover, it was capable of traveling 30 km in electric mode.
However, the complex machine turned out to be unnecessary for anyone. The UAZ-2970 remained a singular prototype.
