Nissan plans to launch over 13 new and updated car models within the next two years. In North America, a new Leaf, a new Sentra, and no less than four crossovers will appear. Highlights from other markets include Micra and Juke EVs, minivans, and pickups. Nissan is going through a tough time. With plummeting sales, financial difficulties, and failed merger talks with Honda, things aren’t looking too good.
However, instead of giving up, the Japanese automaker is taking steps forward. Now, with a new strategy in place, Nissan is preparing to unveil a series of new and updated models by 2027. The brand’s updated lineup will include a variety of configurations with combustion, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric powertrains. Nissan has already presented the first look at several models set to hit the market soon, targeting various regions of the world. For North America, Nissan will present new models, including a new generation Leaf EV, the Sentra sedan, the Rogue crossover, and an updated version of the Pathfinder.
The new Leaf will no longer be a regular hatchback, achieving the status of a full-fledged crossover, with a more stylish design, 19-inch wheels, and a panoramic sunroof. The car will be built on the CMF-EV platform borrowed from the larger , and will have “significant improvements in range” compared to its predecessor. Additionally, it will be the first Nissan car with an NACS charging port, officially supporting charging at Tesla Supercharger stations. The new Rogue (known as X-Trail in other markets) will receive a powertrain upgrade. It will be available in versions with gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid engines.
The e-Power hybrid, which uses a 1.5-liter engine as a generator for the motor that drives the wheels, returns for the next round. The updated Pathfinder will receive a mid-life update, with a new front end, bringing it in line with other Nissan models. It’s expected to be unveiled later this year. Moreover, the updated Sentra will arrive beyond the Rogue. This compact sedan will have a new look, which may or may not make you more interested in compact sedans in general.
Finally, Nissan is also hinting at an “adventurous crossover” with an electric powertrain to be produced at the Canton, Mississippi plant starting in 2027. This yet-unnamed model will have a rugged appearance and futuristic LED lighting, appearing to sit below the Rogue and Pathfinder in size. In Europe, Nissan will finally release a fully electric Micra in the supermini class, with sales starting before the end of the year. This model, which will be known as , shares its base with the Renault R5 E-Tech and will be manufactured by Renault. Nissan showcased images of the production Micra EV, highlighting its round LED headlights, black external accents, and five-door hatchback body.
Another major premiere for Europe will be a fully electric version of the Nissan Juke, inspired by the Hyper Punk concept. This subcompact crossover features a heavily sculpted body but retains some of its originality. Lastly, the EU-mandate will receive a third-generation e-Power hybrid powertrain, resulting in reduced emissions and improved efficiency. Another interesting new model is the new Navara/Frontier mid-size crossover planned for 2026 for the Latin American markets (LATAM). Reportedly, this rugged pickup is a revised version of the old Navara, bringing “evolutionary design, an improved audio-video system, and an impressive set of ADAS.”
The model, a successor to the global one, will be another model sharing its base with the Mitsubishi Triton.
It is described as a “completely new one-ton pickup” to be launched in Australia in 2026. Nissan will launch two new models in India, producing both at the reliable Chennai plant for domestic sales and export. A budget minivan with crossover design elements will hit the market in 2025, followed by a five-seater SUV in 2026. The latter will , showcasing the well-known front-end design. The company also announced a five-seater SUV for select African markets, although it is unclear if it is the same model from Indian production.
In its own market in , Nissan will introduce an updated kei-class car in 2025 and a new generation large minivan with the latest hybrid powertrain in 2026. Ivan Espinosa, the current head of product development and future executive officer, stated, “Over the next two years, we are eagerly introducing an exciting lineup that will redefine road standards! This includes a reimagined Nissan LEAF and a new daring Micra EV. But that’s not all – we are refreshing our crossover lineup to elevate driving to a new level, and our next-generation e-POWER promises new levels of refinement and efficiency. We’re committed to investing in products that embody the best of Nissan.
To our passionate fans and loyal owners worldwide, I can assure you this is just the beginning of an exciting journey forward.”
