In Germany, a Soviet GAZ-14 Chaika of a very unusual cherry color is being sold. At one time, the car was in the garage of Leonid Brezhnev.
Before us is the very first production GAZ-14 of 1976. The Chaika with body number 000001 was gifted to Leonid Brezhnev on his 70th birthday. However, the General Secretary preferred American limousines and ZILs more, so the sedan initially ended up in the garage of the CPSU Central Committee and was later transferred to Yaroslavl.
The GAZ-14 Chaika is equipped with a 5.5-liter 220-horsepower V8 and a 3-speed automatic transmission. The six-meter car weighing 2.6 tons accelerates to 100 km/h in 15 seconds and reaches a top speed of 175 km/h.
Notably, the seats are trimmed not with leather, but with velour. The equipment includes air conditioning, power windows, and a car stereo.
The car changed hands many times before ending up in Germany.
Brezhnev’s Chaika has a mileage of 72,500 km. The price for the unique car is 120,000 euros.
