A rare 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air has arrived at the OldCarLand auto festival, which is being held at VDNKh in Kyiv these days. The car is notable for being used by Leonid Brezhnev and his daughter Galina.
The Chevrolet Bel Air coupe was purchased in Austria, and strangely enough, its speedometer is marked in kilometers per hour. It is the first Chevrolet model with a V8: a 4.3-liter engine producing 165 hp and originally working with a 2-speed automatic transmission.
The car was bought for Leonid Brezhnev, but he soon switched to more modern cars and gave the Chevrolet to his daughter Galina. She even once got into an accident with it, and her knee prints remained in the interior.
From the special-purpose Moscow government garage, the Chevrolet Bel Air ended up in Dnipro. There, it was fitted with an engine from a Volga GAZ-24. Although the original V8 was preserved and eventually returned under the hood (but now with a manual transmission).
Now the unique car awaits restoration, although it has been fairly well-preserved. As its owner said, finding the necessary parts in the USA is not difficult, as they are still being produced.
