The Kyiv authorities have undertaken traffic measurements in the capital. The research will help optimize road traffic and reduce congestion in the city. For the first time in 28 years, the volume of traffic on the roads will be measured in Kyiv

The advisor to the mayor of Kyiv, Maksym Bakhmatov, stated that such measurements are being conducted for the first time in 28 years. It will allow identifying a range of problems and ensuring positive dynamics in the city road loading index in 2020. A special platform for monitoring and evaluating road traffic will be created in the capital.

It will allow addressing the congestion problem at specific locations – for example, optimizing the operation of traffic lights or eliminating bottlenecks on the roads. In the congestion ranking for the past year, Kyiv ranked 12th in the world and third in Europe. To improve the capital’s indicators, a coordination group for planning and improving urban traffic, the Kyiv Traffic Group, was created in October. Since the end of 2019, the volume of evacuated improperly parked vehicles has increased tenfold, and transit lanes for public transport have been cleared, which has tripled its speed. Entry of transit freight transportation into Kyiv during peak hours has also been restricted.
