More electric cars are appearing in Ukraine
In 2021, almost a million cars were imported to Ukraine from abroad, and the increase compared to the previous year was as much as 58 percent. About 10 thousand units from this number are electric cars.
If we operate with exact figures, then over the specified period 994,100 cars were imported to Ukraine, while in 2020 the figure stopped at 598,984.
It is not difficult to calculate that from the entire flow of imported cars to Ukraine, electric vehicles make up only 1 percent, but even so, there is an increase in the popularity of this type of transport among the inhabitants of the country. Over the year, the number of imported electric cars increased by 37 percent.
As of today, the infrastructure serving electric cars in Ukraine is not well developed, hence the share of such transport remains at a low level.
The most popular electric cars in Ukraine for January 2022
In January 2022, 663 electric cars were sold in Ukraine, 32 of which were commercial. This is about a third more than it was a year earlier. The trend towards increasing demand for electric cars is obvious.
Of course, the overwhelming majority of sold electric cars are used, but new cars have been bought much more often than they were quite recently.
The most popular model of electric cars is the “Japanese” Nissan Leaf – 136 units sold. In second place is the electric five-seater sedan Tesla Model 3 – 63 units, in third place – Honda M-NV with 33 units sold, and this model was hardly known recently in Ukraine. The Top 5 most demanded electric cars also included Volkswagen e-Golf and Chevrolet Bolt.
Electric cars ZAZ
It also became known that ZAZ electric cars entered the market in Ukraine, but they are not made at the Zaporizhia automotive plant at all. In Dnipro, there is a company called Kozak EV which is engaged in creating electric cars from ordinary Tavria and Slavuta models.
It is worth noting that the company only converts ZAZ into electric cars, as for the donor car, the owners will have to sort it out somehow themselves. Together with the donor, the purchase of such an electric car will cost 5-7 thousand dollars.
