As established by AutoPortal, motor oil prices in Ukraine have increased by an average of 15-20%, and for some manufacturers, prices have risen even up to 40%. At the same time, its quality does not always depend on the price and cost increase.
Back in 2019, the Consumer Expertise Institute conducted a large-scale quality check of motor oil for cars sold in Ukraine. To this end, specialists took 10 oils from different manufacturers with the popular 5W-40 specification and studied the composition of each of the fluids in detail.
Each sample was tested for basic physicochemical properties, after which laboratory-stand testing methods were conducted. These methods allow simulating the use of oils in real conditions, including the most extreme ones. What did the test show?
All 10 oils successfully passed the laboratory check of the basic physicochemical properties. However, some oils “failed” the corrosion test, and one of the brands was a clear outsider in sedimentation.
At the same time, it was established that out of 10, only 2 brands could be considered favorites for oil quality (they have similar characteristics). However, considering that the oil of one of these brands increased in price only up to 20%, while the other – to as much as 37%, among the optimal price-quality choices in the market, only one manufacturer remained (in fact, the one whose product price did not increase so significantly).
