Fines for Drunk Driving Substantially Increased in Ukraine

More precisely, driving under the influence is now a criminal offense. The fine for the first offense is now 17-34 thousand hryvnias, and driving rights can be revoked for up to three years. Drunk driving also includes transferring vehicle control to an intoxicated driver, refusal to take an alcohol test, and consuming alcohol after a traffic accident.

A repeated offense threatens a fine of 51 thousand hryvnias and license revocation for a period of 2 to 3 years. However, it is unclear how long the new rules will last, as the Verkhovna Rada has already passed a law canceling criminal liability for drunk driving, and it is currently awaiting the president’s signature.
