President Volodymyr Zelensky signed laws on preferential customs clearance for cars with EU plates. They have come into force, but it will only be possible to cheaply customs clear a car with EU plates in a month.
It is then that a new 180-day preferential period will begin. During this time, one citizen will be able to customs clear one car with EU plates of Euro-2 standard and higher, older than 5 years, and imported into Ukraine before December 31, 2020.

On average, customs clearance for a car with EU plates will cost around 1000 euros. However, an additional fine of 8500 hryvnias will need to be paid.
The excise tax will be calculated using the formula: base rate + Vе + Fе. The base rate is:
- car aged 5-9 years – 0 euros;
- car aged 10 years – 25 euros;
- car aged 11 years – 50 euros;
- car aged 12 years – 75 euros;
- car aged 13 years – 100 euros;
- car aged 14 years – 125 euros;
- car aged 15 years and older – 150 euros.
Ve – car tax rate: - 0.25 euros per 1 cc – for cars with an engine volume up to 2000 cc;
- 0.2 euros per 1 cc – for cars with an engine volume of 2001-3000 cc;
- 0.25 euros per 1 cc – for cars with an engine volume of 3001-4000 cc;
- 0.35 euros per 1 cc – for cars with an engine volume of 4001-5000 cc;
- 0.5 euros per 1 cc – for cars with an engine volume of more than 5000 cc.
Fе – a tax of 100 euros for gasoline and diesel models. It is zero for hybrids and electric vehicles.
