Restrictions on Free Car Customs Clearance Introduced in Ukraine

Despite the war, free car customs clearance in Ukraine is in great demand. So much so, that restrictions have to be introduced, as the queues of European cars at the border are hindering the transportation of humanitarian aid and military equipment.

According to Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Mustafa Nayyem, more than 14,300 cars have already been imported for customs clearance. And among them are expensive models like the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi Q7 2022, or Cadillac Escalade worth 3.1 million UAH. According to Nayyem, our European partners are, to put it mildly, very surprised by this.

Therefore, from April 25, used cars can be imported into Ukraine only through certain checkpoints:

By the way, there are already proposals to completely abolish free customs clearance. In particular, the head of the parliamentary committee on customs and tax policy Daniil Hetmancev is considering this possibility, as most of the cars are imported not by ordinary citizens, but by dealers and resellers. According to preliminary data, the new restrictions (and possibly the abolition of free customs clearance) will be considered by the Verkhovna Rada as early as Thursday.
