May is a special spring month, on the border of spring and summer. The weather cannot settle, cold air either comes or retreats. Meteorologists call this phenomenon return cold. Moreover, the intensity of May cold is significant.
Everyone knows the folk signs about cooling during the flowering period of apricots and bird cherry, so one should not be surprised by May cold and frosts, they have always been, but with different intensity. In May this year, waves of cold are too often attacking Ukraine, and by the end of May, there will still be a drop in temperature, so we keep warm clothes ready.
On the weekend the weather in the country will vary greatly: from rain and daytime temperature of +15°C in the west to +29 with light cloudiness in the east and south.
Western Ukraine: on Friday, May 14, the air temperature in the region is +18…+19°C, thunderstorms in places will be very intense. On the weekend, the west of the country is the coldest region. Intense rains and thunderstorms are expected. According to the forecast by Sinoptik.ua on the weekend, May 15-16 morning +14°C, warmer during the day – up to +20°C, mostly cloudy, with clearings. On the weekends, there will be rains in places that will cover the entire region next week. Thunderstorms and gusty winds up to 7 m/s will accompany the rainy weather.
In the highlands of the Carpathians, May 15-17 will be cooler, during the day +13…+14°C, at night +3…+7°C, rains.
In the central region on May 14, the air temperature is +22…+23°C, in Vinnytsia region +16°C. Light local rains are expected. May 15-16 the center of the country is in a comfort zone. In Cherkasy, Kropyvnytskyi, and Poltava the air temperature from +18°C to +24°C with humidity from 55% to 70% and wind speed up to 5 m/s. Only in Vinnytsia may there be a slight rain. On Monday, May 17, the temperature will drop by a few degrees, rains with thunderstorms will occur.
The East of Ukraine May 14-17 is the hottest region: in Luhansk and Donetsk region – up to +29°C, in Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk – up to +26°C. On May 14, light rains will occur in Kharkiv region. No precipitation is expected on the weekend, starting Monday, May 17, rains with thunderstorms in Kharkiv region, on Tuesday – in Donetsk region.
In the south of the country May 14 there will be no rain, the air temperature in Odesa and Mykolaiv regions +18…+19°C, in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia +22…+25°C. On the weekend the daytime minimum temperature in Odesa region is +19…+21°C, the daytime maximum temperature in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions is +24…+27°C. In the beginning of the week, only in Zaporizhzhia region will the high air temperature up to +26 be maintained. On the weekend, intense rains with thunderstorms will occur in places.
In the northern regions of Ukraine on May 14 +18…+23°C, variable cloudiness, with occasional rain. On Saturday, rainy weather is also expected, which will not affect only Zhytomyr region. On Sunday, May 16, without precipitation, cloudy with clearings. The air temperature during the day on the weekend is +21…+23°C, in Sumy – up to +25°C. The working week will begin with rainy weather, mostly cloudy.
In Kyiv on Friday night to +12°C, during the day +17…+18°C, pressure 741 mmHg, rain is expected during the day, southeast wind up to 4 m/s. On weekends during the day +19…+23°C, on May 15 short light rains, May 16, on Sunday no precipitation is expected, the temperature will rise to +23°C.
From Monday it will cool down to +17°C, heavy rains will occur, possibly with thunderstorms. The whole next week we carry an umbrella with us, it will rain periodically.
