In Ukraine, a project to recreate the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing coupe from 1955 has been completed. The car copies the appearance of the original as accurately as possible but is built with the technical components from the early 2000s. This is reported by “Focus.ua”.
The replica was created by master Oleksandr from Zhytomyr together with his team. He showed the construction process and project details on his own YouTube channel “Jeeps-Monsters”.
Mercedes-Benz 300 SL 1955 recreated in Ukraine: body and interior

The body of the replica was made with maximum precision. The gaps are minimal, and all external elements — bumpers, moldings, door handles, and lights — are reproductions of original parts that are currently produced for the restoration of genuine 300 SLs.
The car received the signature gullwing doors. The interior is also reproduced in detail: red leather, classic layout, and a complex steering wheel identical to the one installed on the original Mercedes 300 SL.
Mercedes-Benz 300 SL on modern technology: components and capabilities

The technical basis of the project was borrowed from the Mercedes-Benz SLK32 AMG. The coupe is equipped with a 3.2-liter supercharged V6 engine producing 354 hp, which ensures acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 4.5 seconds.
The car has a modern suspension and braking system. An automatic transmission, air conditioning, and cruise control have also been installed — equipment that was not present in the original model from the 1950s.
The original Mercedes 300 SL was produced from 1954 to 1957 with a run of about 1,400 units. It is considered one of the world’s first supercars and a pioneer in the serial implementation of direct fuel injection.
