Ukrainians are almost not buying cheap cars; instead, they are snapping up new BMWs, Porsches, and Lexuses. It might seem like a paradox?! But no, this trend has been observed for several consecutive months. As TopGir has already written, based on the results of January 2023, BMW and Mercedes have taken the top spots in Ukraine’s new car market first steps conquered by BMW and Mercedes.
According to TopGir, citing research by AUTO-Consulting, the sales of new cars in the premium segment have reached pre-war levels over the first two months of the current year. Moreover, some models of premium brands have shown unprecedented sales growth. For the first months of 2023, almost all top premium brands demonstrated positive dynamics. Specifically, the leader in the segment, BMW, added +64% compared to the last year, Mercedes-Benz – +18.5%, Lexus – +75.6%, Land Rover – +1.6%, Porsche – stable indicators. Only Volvo and Audi lost sales.
Most Popular Premium Cars
- Mercedes-Benz GLE (+50%)
- BMW X7 (+158%)
- BMW X5 (+100%)
- BMW X3 (+900%!)
- Range Rover (+92%)
Interestingly, similar trends have already been recorded in the history of the Ukrainian car market. In particular, in the 1990s of the last century, similar trends were observed in Ukraine: only cheap cars (VAZs, ZAZs, used foreign cars, etc.) or expensive cars were being sold. There was virtually no middle class at that time. That is, against the backdrop of the crisis, some shifts in consumer sentiments are occurring.
