Truck explosion in Illinois due to propane leak
In the city of Addison, Illinois, a large-scale accident occurred – a truck transporting a propane cylinder exploded. The incident was captured by surveillance cameras. The footage shows the vehicle moving along a residential street, followed by a powerful explosion that scattered debris around.
Police initially misidentified the vehicle as a platform but later clarified that it was a rented Penske truck. According to law enforcement:
The explosion occurred around 8:40 a.m., and its cause was a propane leak from the cylinder. Explosives specialists and ATF worked at the scene.
Consequences of the accident
As a result of the incident, four houses were damaged, one of them becoming uninhabitable due to damage to the load-bearing wall. The truck driver sustained only minor injuries, which is surprising given the force of the explosion.
A Penske company representative emphasized that renters are not allowed to transport explosive or flammable materials. However, footage from local media clearly shows an AmeriGas propane cylinder in the cargo compartment of the damaged vehicle.
Scattered belongings and furniture were found two blocks away from the scene. Local residents are still assessing the extent of the damage, and specialists continue to investigate all the circumstances of the incident. Such cases serve as a reminder of the importance of adhering to hazardous materials transportation rules, especially in residential areas.
