Your Honda HR-V Can Now Fully Replicate the Mugen Style

The tuning atelier Mugen has introduced an updated accessory kit for the Honda ZR-V Cross Touring crossover in the Japanese market. Available enhancements include an aerodynamic body kit, new wheels, suspension tuning, and a sport exhaust system.

Update for the American Market

Following the launch of the updated Honda ZR-V in Japan, Mugen announced a revised parts catalog for this crossover, focused on aerodynamics and chassis. This news is particularly significant for buyers in North America, as the new kit is now compatible with the American version of the HR-V.

When the current generation HR-V debuted in North America in 2022, it received a honeycomb grille, black decorative bumper trims, and underbody protection that differed from the global ZR-V. Previously, Mugen’s aerodynamic parts were designed for the ZR-V’s different front-end shape and did not fit the American model.

For the 2026 model year, the automaker introduced a more adventure-oriented ZR-V Cross Touring trim in Japan with robust cladding that mirrors the design of the American version. Mugen responded by redesigning its aero kit, meaning the new version can finally be installed on the model for the American market without the need for custom modifications.

Aero Kit Details

A key element is the sporty front bumper lip extension with aluminum-look inserts, which has been slightly altered to match the different shape of the decorative grille. Other components appear to have been carried over from the previous catalog but are now available with a matte black finish.

Additional elements include sharper side skirts, new mirror caps, aerodynamic add-ons for the rear spoiler and rear bumper, and an extra decorative spoiler for the tailgate. Owners can also get black decals and window visors. The interior can be complemented with branded floor mats, trunk tray liners, and scuff plates.

Wheels, Suspension, and Exhaust System

Regarding functional improvements, Mugen introduced a new set of 19-inch gunmetal-colored alloy wheels designed specifically for the Cross Touring model, alongside the existing multi-spoke wheels for the rest of the lineup. These can be paired with Yamaha-tuned Performance dampers, which the manufacturer claims improve both ride comfort and the crossover’s handling.

The hybrid powertrain, which is the sole option for the Japanese ZR-V starting with the 2026 model year, receives no updates, delivering the same 181 hp in both front- and all-wheel-drive versions. Nevertheless, Mugen offers a stainless steel sport exhaust system with four tips, promising an enhanced sound.

Upgrade Costs

The full list of upgrades for the 2026 Honda ZR-V is available in Japan via Mugen’s official website. The front bumper lip extension costs 110,000 yen for the Cross Touring and 99,000 yen for the standard model. Side skirts will set you back 104,500 yen, rear spoilers are 88,000 yen, the decorative tailgate spoiler is 93,500 yen, the roof spoiler add-on is 38,500 yen, and mirror caps are 39,600 yen.

The most expensive item is the sport exhaust system at 330,000 yen, followed by the 19-inch alloy wheels priced at 286,000 yen per set, and the Performance dampers, which add 143,000 yen to the total.

As for the interior, Mugen has bundled floor mats, a trunk tray liner, and window visors into one set for 107,800 yen. This covers the basics, though one can always add small items like lug nuts and bolts, carbon emblems, oil filler cap covers, door handle protectors, and decorative license plate frames, which will increase the overall expense.

The presentation of Mugen’s updated catalog for the ZR-V, now compatible with the American HR-V, opens up new possibilities for brand enthusiasts outside Japan. This indicates the growing globalization of the tuning market and the adaptation of products to different regional vehicle specifications. The focus on aerodynamics and driving dynamics rather than power, typical for hybrid models, demonstrates that improvements in handling and individuality remain a priority even for environmentally oriented vehicles.
