Your Crazy Love for Off-Road Vehicles Ruins Škoda’s Plans to Create Sports Cars, But All Is Not Lost Yet

Skoda Considers the Possibility of Launching More Emotional Models

Although Skoda is currently focused on mass-market crossovers and SUVs, the brand’s CEO Klaus Zellmer does not rule out the possibility of creating niche, more expressive models in the future. Currently, the company aims to establish itself in the main market segments, but if sales are successful, the strategy could change over the next decade.

Previous hints of a bolder approach can be seen in the 2022 Vision GT concept, which was inspired by the classic 1957 1100 OHC model. However, as Zellmer noted:

These are just small experiments – they add energy to the brand, but the economic rationale for them is minimal.

Main Priority – Mass-Market Models

Currently, Skoda does not have the capacity to develop niche projects due to limited resources. The company is focused on electrification and hybrid technologies, as well as increasing sales volumes. In 2024, the brand achieved record figures: 926,600 cars sold and revenue of 28 billion euros.

Zellmer believes that more emotional models can only be considered after each main body type sells over 100,000 units per year. Currently, some models already exceed this figure, giving hope for an expanded range in the future.

Possible Development Directions

One idea could be an electric sports car based on an existing platform. Zellmer also mentioned the popular Yeti crossover from the past, which still has many fans. He does not rule out the return of this model or a similar character car.

Despite the brand remaining practical and mass-market oriented, its recent success opens up new opportunities. If the growth trend continues, in just a few years Skoda could afford bolder decisions that appeal not only to reason but also to emotions.
